About HMC

HMC manages the University’s endowment and related financial assets with a focus on long-term results. The endowment is a critical factor in the life of the University, providing about one-third of the University’s annual operating budget, including funding for faculty, research and student scholarships.

The idea of a professional investment firm solely dedicated to actively managing the Harvard University endowment was ground-breaking when Harvard Management Company was established in 1974, and remains unique today.

The firm employs a hybrid approach to investment management, employing a combination of internal portfolio managers many of whom are internationally recognized leaders in their fields, and external investment management firms who are expert in a variety of markets and asset classes across the globe.
